The Hora, the candle lighting, the after-party.
A Bar Mitzvah, Bat Mitzvah, or B'nai Mitzvah with Tommy's Tunes runs on the same forty-year Long Island family business that's behind every wedding and Sweet 16 we've ever done. Two rooms in one night: the family arc with the formal moments, and the teen after-party. We run both.
David is the MC who most often leads mitzvahs. He's the same MC Sweet 16 families call out by name in their reviews, which isn't a coincidence. The energy mix is similar. After forty years, the rest of the team can step in too. Knowing the Hora calls, the motzi and kiddush, when to drop Hava Nagila, how to lead the chair lift cleanly: that's part of the standard for anyone working a mitzvah here.
The planning is the same as a Sweet 16. You sit down at the Selden showroom or the Melville office, and we walk through the Mitzvah Protocol together. It's on our forms page, downloadable to fill out at home. The candle lighting (13 candles, each with a person to call up and a song that plays), the parent dance, the motzi and kiddush, the after-party set, all locked in before the day of. As religious or as relaxed as your family wants. Some mitzvahs lean traditional. Others run closer to a Sweet 16 vibe with the candle lighting threaded in. Both are completely fine.
Once the formal arc closes, the after-party is when the room shifts. Teens take the floor. The music opens up. The MC's job moves from running calls to keeping the energy alive between the older guests filtering out and the kids running the dance floor. We've been doing this long enough to read the transition.
Long Island venues are the same we know for weddings. Country clubs, hotels, synagogue halls, restaurants. Every active Recommended Vendor partnership on our venues page handles mitzvahs too. If your venue isn't on the list, ask. Forty years means we've probably been there.
